Ungka I, Pavia, Iloilo, Philippines
In Ungka I, Pavia, Iloilo there was a housing project for the employees of a certain department of the government. I learned from the locals that not long after the people settled in, they abandoned the houses due to low quality materials utilized in its building – perhaps to maximize profit in contracts. Eventually, the remaining shacks were stripped of the still usable housing materials.
My work is about foreign creature that now inhabits what is left of the houses. As with my other works that feature a gazing entity of some sort, it attempts to engage the viewer by staring back at them. Part of my objective in this type work is to insinuate critical thinking in its audience.
